Your Bills IQ

Jul-21-2008 By Family Man

Bills IQI recently ran across a site where you can get your “Bills IQ”.  Basically on a scale of 0% to 100% you can figure out your overall IQ when it comes to things like credit, debt, and budgeting.  I figured I would give it a try.

Feeling like my situation was going to really drag down my score, I was surprised when it gave me a 72% score.  Now of course I wished for something higher, but in my present situation I have to say that 72% wasn’t too shabby.

Now it did highlight for me a few areas where I already knew I had some struggles.  It reminded me that I had no budget to speak of and in order to be successful I need to make sure I get on board with one.  When it reminded me that it would take me at least fifteen years to end my credit card debt as it stands know, it was a bit depressing, but I can’t say it wasn’t something I didn’t know already.

Overall I liked the look and feel of the site.  It was easy to use and gave some interesting feedback.  At the end you could put in your age bracket and state, and gender, and it showed you how you compared to the rest of the demographic.

If you need Debt help one place to start is with your Bills IQ.  They even provide links to partners should you be ready to take the next step.

Bills IQ, made me realize I still have a long way to go in my financial fitness work.  Though it helped me see some other ways I could go if I choose to.  Go find out your BillsIQ today, and get started on your own path to financial fitness!

The Reset Button

Jul-17-2008 By Family Man

Aren’t there days you wish you could hit the “reset” button on you life? There are many days I wish I could. Not that I would want to change the circumstances of my life, but I would live to be able to reboot my daily life, and hope that some of the glitches reset. So how do you hit that reset button? Well that often is the big question. One I am not always too sure of. I think when ever we need to do that we need to realize that we have specific reboot steps, just like any electronics we may have.

So for our computers we:

  • We need to stop our own over taxed operating system.
  • We need to shut down any unnecessary programs.
  • Power down
  • Wait a few minutes
  • Start Up
  • Prevent any “extra” programs from starting up

For us as people it’s a similar idea:

  • Stop over analyzing
  • Do something that relaxes you, go for a walk, read, play a game.
  • Get a good nights sleep
  • take the problem in small ways to make it seem less challenging.

Hopefully that will engage you reset button. When was the last time you reset your mind?

Thanks for joining us for this weeks “Way Back Wednesday“, “A Special Report” edition.  This week take a different road, than other weeks.  Today we will look at news Special Reports, as they were broadcast, and how they shaped our lives.

I must note, that these clips may be emotionally charged.  These clips are to remind us of how fragile our world truly is, and what our responsibility as citizens of the world are.

With that, we “Interrupt this Broadcast to bring you a Special Report.”

Assasination Of Martin Luther King Jr. (March 29, 1968)

This short clip is of Dan Rather informing the public of Dr. King’s assassination in Memphis Tennessee, on the evening of March 29, 1968.  A grifter named James Earl Ray confessed to the crime, and later recanted. in 1997 the King family won a civil suit against Loyd Jowers, when a jury found sufficient proof that he was a conspirator in the assassination.  Questions remain today into the death of Dr. King.

The Challenger Explosion (January 28, 1986)

The Space Shuttle Challengerexploded 73 seconds after launch, on the morning of January 28, 1986.  The cause of the explosion was the failure of an “O” ring, and the oddly cold temperatures, that impacted the performance of the “O” rings.  One of the crew killed, was New Hampshire teacher Christa McAuliffe.  The mission was STS-51.  The other members of the crew were Michael J. Smith, Dick Scobee, Ronald McNair; Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Judith Resnik.

The 2000 Presidential Election
Dubbed the “Election that Wouldn’t Die” the presidential election of 2000 was one of legend.  A race between Texas Governor George W. Bush, and Vice President Al Gore, ended in a virtual tie.  The outcome of the election hindering on the State of Florida.  After multiple recounts, the vote difference was only about 300 votes.  While Al Gore led in the popular vote, Governor Bush led in the Electoral College.  On December 12, 2000 the United State Supreme Court voted 7-2 to stop the recounts, which effectively ended the race, and gave the presidency to Bush.

September 11, 2001

This date has gone down as the worst act of terrorism on US soil.  Al-Qaeda a middle eastern terrorist organization staged attacks using commercial aircraft on both the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon, in Virginia, and and unverified target, that was never hit thanks to heroic passengers over Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Both of the Trade Towers were destroyed, and about 2,974 people lost their lives. This brought terrorism to the forefront, and showed the world that we must work together to defeat it.

That is Way Back Wednesday for this week.  Please let me know if there is a topic you would like to see on Way Back Wednesday!

Friday Fun

Jul-11-2008 By Family Man

So Friday is here and I am going to try and highlight some of the fun Stuff. So I am sure there are so many other fun things out there.

Have you heard of Lively by Google? Similar in Idea to Second Life, but a lot less advanced, it’s a smaller idea in the world of both on-line living, and Social Networking. Lively Seems to be much more designed for the Social Networking Idea. If you are a marketer, or even trying to make new friends it’s interesting. I have created a room there called “Debtors Across the World”. It’s a good meeting place for those wanting to have a better financial future. Check it out if you are so inclined.

If you are a writer, Dr. John over at the Fortress, reminds everyone that July 20th is the day to submit a story to his Liar’s club contest. Just check out his July 9, 2008 post for details.

Also Trent over at the simple dollar has some great posts this week about living paycheck to paycheck.

Finally, please think of this one final option for president in 08′
