Stocks are higher today as investors buy up companies at bargain prices. Who knows if this will continue. Many think the big buy up is also related to the anticipated rate cut tomorrow. But for the rest of us, I think it will be a long road to recovery, not only for the economy but for so many personally.

I know our road to recovery will be a long one. At church on Sunday the pastor spoke about how we need to live in the day, and realize that we have many things we tend to forget. With luck we are healthy, we have a roof over our heads, and the hope for a better tomorrow. I try not to think about the path that brought us here, and at times it is difficult to see that tomorrow, with all of the difficulty today.

I saw this interesting article on CNN, “Personal Bankruptcies on the rise” where they discuss the fact that personal bankruptcies may reach the 1 million mark before the end of the year, and next year may in fact be worse. It’s sad to see that our country has fallen so fall into a recession, which no one was smart enough or quick enough to react to.

Housing prices have plunged another 17.1%, and consumer sentiment is now at the lowest level since 1968. Then we have our political candidates.

Both tell you they are the right one to fix the economy. Both say they will lower the middle class taxes. Both tell you the other guy is wrong. Both forget to tell you they can’t pass any of that without congress. Both will run into a congress with an approval rating as low as our current Commander-In Chief. We hear all the hype but unfortunately I don’t think the makeup of congress will change all that much. I don’t think either side will walk away with the resounding majority they are looking for.

We will be the loosers until the infighting stops, and the real work begins. What do you think? Will we be better off in four years?
