Way Back Wednesday for May 7, 2008
Welcome to this weeks “Way Back Wednesday”, the “They Didn’t quite make it edition”. It higlights tv series that didn’t quite make it.
Blue Thunder-ABC 1984
Starring James Farentino, former professional American football players Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus, and a young Dana Carvey, the show was a spinoff of the major motion picture of the same name. 11 episodes were made, before ABC executives, fearing that CBS’s Airwolf was winning the rating battle pulled the plug. If I saw this thing I know I wouldn’t speed.
Automan-1984 ABC
Unoffically based on the popular TRON movie, automan was about a holographic crime fighter who along with his programmer (an LAPD Computer Technician), took crime fighting to the digital age. The two main stars were Desi Arnaz Jr., and Chuck Wagner. (I love the “advanced” computers they had back then)
Street Hawk-ABC 1985
This 11 episode series starring Rex Smith, and Joe Regalbuto revolved around a secret government project, a superbike, known as “Streek Hawk”. The bike had lasers and Hyperthrust, but it wasn’t strong enough to beat the bad ratings.
This week there is a fourth “bonus” entry….
Misfits of Science-NBC 1985
A superhero fantasy television series that aired on NBC in the Fall of 1985. Starring Dean Paul Martin, and a young Courtney Cox, it revolved around a group of people with strange abilities, that band together to fight crime. It was made for 15 episodes plus the 2 hour pilot. Oddly many of the cast met unfortunate cicumstances or ends. Dean Paul Martin was killed while flying on an Air National Guard training mission in 1987. He was the son of Dean Martin. Another Star of the show Kevin Peter Hall, recived a tainted blood transfusion following an accident in 1990, and died of AIDS in 1991. Mark Thomas Miller was a rising star in the late 80’s. Involved in a disfiguring accident in 1991 he retired from acting.
Misfits of Science
That’s it for this week!
