The Great “Family Sell Off”

It’s a beautiful Sunny day today, almost 80 degrees.  I love it.  This weekend is the opening day for Little League.  It’s supposed to be a nice day.  I love days like this because it makes you feel good to be alive.  However until I get some of our debt squared away, it’s always a bit cloudy.  My wife and I are about to begin what I call the “great family sell-off”.  Basically if it’s not something we need, or use, it will be on the sales block.

When my mother’s parents passed years ago, I inherited what I fondly call the moveable junk.  It consists of a number of boxes of china, though one off pieces, a ruby red plate with gold inlay, a 1952 Singer sewing machine (still works), and some various artwork.  I know there is more but I haven’t even opened the boxes in a few years, so I really would have to take inventory.  One of the pieces is a copy of a Crimean War painting called “Comrades”  by and artist named Robert Gibb.  It’s duplication with oils.  I recently was told that I might be able to get about $1000 for it, even with the bullet hole in it.  Apparently it was shot during a raid in the mid 40’s  I have held onto it for years, but because it is “ugly” (see above) it has been relegated to hang in my closet, as my wife will not allow it’s presence in any are to which it can be seen.

There are also two lithograph prints hanging in another room in wood planked frames with hand-blown glass, called “The Two Comrades” one is appropriately called “Before the Battle” and the second “After the Battle”.  I know my great grandmother bought them for $200 a piece in 1950, but that’s about all I know.  I would love to know what they are worth today.  As we sell off these “prized” possessions (Solid Brass teas set anyone?) we will also be paring down our lives, and working on our web ventures, as well as other forms of income.

I will also be working on this site a bit more.  Updating the header banner, and also the CSS style a bit.  It shouldn’t impact the site, I hope.

Lastly, I would like to say that I am having a Link Drive.  I am looking for sites to link to mine, and receive a link from me in return.  I reserve the right to refuse the link, but unless it’s adult in nature (sorry no porn), or totally offensive I would be happy to swap links.  Go here and leave a comment if you are interested.

Have a great Friday!

Ooooo…..you’ve got to post more pictures of these treasures. I totally love this stuff. I am addicted to Antiques Roadshow and that other one, Cash in the Attic (or something like that). Even though I don’t buy a lot, I love going to flea markets and garage sales just to see what’s there.
