Random Thinking Reflects my Values

A while back I did a special series on the differences between Now and Then, or more simply put between when I was a child, and young adult, and today. One thing I never really talked about was the amount of debt people held. You see many of our parents (for those of us in our 30’s and 40’s) had parents whose parents were survivors of the depression. My grandparents are depression survivors. They don’t buy on credit, and when they do they always have the cash to pay it off if they need to. The only thing you bought back then on credit was a house, and you only bought one of those with a huge down payment. But we as normal everyday people have ingrained into our basic instinct the need to be top dog and therefore “Keep up with the Jones’s”.

For those that were hurt in the depression the “Jones’s” didn’t matter anymore, it was survival that mattered, and that mattered more than anything. Unfortunately the majority of people didn’t learn a lesson form that, and honestly many depression survivors don’t even like to talk about those times.

So what has really changed in the world? We have technology today that is supposed to make our lives better, more simple, and more purposeful. Yet our traffic is worse, we are in more debt, and the old adage the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer still remains. And education about debt is still modest at best.

Most banks want us in debt, and we ourselves have to understand how we put ourselves there. We along need to change this. I read every day as I research my on-line money making methods, of make 3 figures in 30 days, or 6 figures in 60, and one thing everyone should consider is the end goal. For example my goal to make money on-line is not to be rich. Sounds weird doesn’t it.

Here are my goals:

1.) Pay off the stupid debt I created.
2.) Save enough for a home down payment
3.) Put away for my three children’s education.
4.) Put away some money so it grows for my retirement

DONE! I don’t care to make millions a month, or have fancy cars, and a big mansion. It’s not me. I like to work, and contribute, and I would like for my children to learn the same. If I can achieve income online, then when I achieve my goals, then I stop. I would give the sites to someone else that shares my values, and my desires, so that I could help them.

That is what makes us all who we are, not what we have, but what we believe.
