The Thinking Blogger Award

May-30-2007 By Family Man

EJ Cooksey from Home Schooling in the Ozarks has chosen this blog for “The Thinking Blogger Award”.

I am flattered and honored to have received this award. I am only two months into blogging, and it is great to know that people enjoy my blog, and that it makes them reflect, as well as think. The Thinking Blogger Award was started by Ilker Yodas at The Thinking Blog, and since it started it has been given to a number of wonderful bloggers. If you get a chance, be sure and go visit Home Schooling in the Ozarks who received The Thinking Blogger Award from DiamondVVV1 at MyBootsnMe.com.

With that said, I would like to pass this award on to 5 blogs that make me think.

1. Acquire Wisdom and Live With Passion- Wise sayings give us wisdom, tell us how to use knowledge, tell us how to live.

2. Tales of a Total Spender- On Being Sane in Insane Places: Korea
Reconsidered and other Ruminations

3. The Friendship Blog-Everything about Friendships, all in
one place.

4. Reflections on Balance-Inspirations on Life Balance, Work-Life Balance, and Work-Family Balance

5. Kahlee’s Blog-Never Give a Cheerleader a Keyboard

The blogs I have chosen are under no obligation to accept the award, link back to me, or even carry on the meme.

(*Should the bloggers choose to participate, please make sure to pass the rules on to the next Thinking Blogs you tag.)

The participation rules are simple:

1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think.

2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.

3. Optional: Proudly display the ‘Thinking Blogger Award’ with a link to the post that you wrote
(here is an alternative
silver version if gold doesn’t fit your blog).

Remember Those who Serve

May-27-2007 By Family Man

As we in the US celebrate Memorial Day, a day in which we remember those men and women who gave their life to protect our country, and those serving today, I am left with a thought. Today in the 21st century we as human being have the power to wage horrible war. So devastating that it could we could end life as we know it. Yet many of the battles that are waged today are based upon conflicts that are centuries old. Why can’t people, all people regardless of age, religion, or any other label, learn to co-exist? While I will not rant on about my feelings of the appropriateness of some of the current conflict, I do support the men and women of the US armed services, both past and present. While I may or may not agree with their mission, I do support them. I also support those who have served our country, and the world.
Happy and Safe Memorial Day

Musings of a Sleep Deprived Father

May-25-2007 By Family Man

The last few nights have been one of tossing and turning quite a bit. That of course leads to what I affectionately call “Sometimers”. Literally “Sometimers” means that sometimes I remember, sometimes I don’t. It can be quite true for anything even say a conversation. My wife and I have had a few over the last few days that have ended abruptly when she noticed I either had a blank stare as though my brain had just checked out on vacation, or even worse when I stop mid-sentence as I have forgotten what the conversation was about, and as thus what I was even saying. Now what was I talking about……?

I have been delving further into the whole making money on-line process, and trying to find my “niche”. I will post some of my more recent earnings for my ventures for everyone’s amusement. Now I haven’t given up, but so far it hasn’t been those overnight cash deliveries you read about. One thing I may consider is going back into editorial writing, as I have the time and inclination. I was very adept at it years ago, and made some fairly good money doing it. There are a couple of things I have always tried to remember about writing:
1)Be Honest
2)Make thoughts complete, as nobody is going to read a ramble
3)Make it relevant to you, and it will have those personal touches that make it relevant to the reader
.

Writing should be a window to the mind of the writer. You should leave a story, a blog post, or an article with some insight to how the writer feels, and how they experienced what they were writing about. That’s how and why a story is interesting. A good and true example can be very basic, but will give the reader so much more of how you feel.

I remember finding my mothers journals in a box a few years after she died. As I read them I could hear her voice in my mind, almost as though she was sitting there reading me these stories. I gave me that sense of closeness and security that a child gets from their mother, a feeling I hadn’t felt since she died when I was 19. And it wasn’t the words on the paper that made the difference but the underlying emotion in the meaning of those words. I try to remember that each time I write, to allow feelings and emotions and heart to help guide me.

And those are the random Friday musings of a 34 year old father.

Now what was I talking about?……

It starts with only one kind act

May-24-2007 By Family Man

I have made a commitment to post, and I am always a believer in working to achieve my goals. Sam Chan over at Acquire Wisdom and Live with Passion, had a good post today called “Remember to Pass It On Well”. It is very true for those of us that are parents. Our primary goal is always to ensure that our children have an even better life that we could hope. One thing I hope to pass on to my children is to accept each person for who they are flaws and all. Each person has the ability to impact someone’s life for the better, and in turn they will do the same for someone else. Imagine if everyone thought that way what a safe and wonderful place the world would be. That is my thought for the day.

Return to the Grind

May-21-2007 By Family Man

It’s Monday! And back to work I go. Or as my wife would say, back to some peace and quiet. Both of the kids got colds over the weekend, so we have cranky and coughy at home. I did manage to get about 50% of my to-do’s done, so had my time off been 50% longer I would have gotten about 50% more done. I have been really bad about blog reading lately, but my goal this week is to catch up. There are a lot of MyBloglog communities that I read regularly, and in addition, I am beginning to find some good success on Blog Catalog. There are some really good blogs to be found, not only about money making, but just Blogs in general. I have decided that each week I want to highlight one blog, and tell you a bit about it. If they choose to reciprocate, great, but it is not required. I am adding a block this week that has my “target” to raise amount, and my “raised” to date. I also want to take some examples from some fellow bloggers and I will tell you what seems to work.
There is one program I have heard some great things about for those of you monetizing your blogs. It’s called Google Cash. There was a free report out there for it, and below i have linked to the product itself. It does look really interesting. Right now the author has it on sale for $67.00. So I have my new goals in order for the time being:

  1. Post More Often
  2. Share the link love and hope it comes back to me
  3. Right from the heart, and make it relevant
  4. Continue to add to my readership
  5. Be a better parent

Ok, so I threw the last one in for the truthful sake of it.

Welcome Back!
