Abraham Lincoln once said “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak forward and remove all doubt.” I remember first seeing that quote on my grandmother’s refrigerator, when I was probably like 7. It’s amazing what sticks with you. Something I read when I was 7 still comes up a lot 27 years later. Not totally sure why that is pertinent to anything I really blog about on a consistent basis, but it one of those things we all get from time to time, a random thought, or song, that suddenly implants itself in the front of your brain that just won’t go away. My wife called me at work this morning to ask me why I started our dishwasher half empty. My explanation that I was being a “typical male” and probably thinking ahead to something else. Or honestly, just not thinking, but kind of running on that auto-pilot we all have.
So still no benefactor today, that decided to solve all of my debt by donating 50K, but I have made 14 cents. So only $51,999.86 left to go. Though it is the process of finding ways to make that money that is the journey itself. To me it is the self exploration and discovery that can make the journey a good one. I seem to be reflective today, thinking about family, and friends. My mother died when I was 20, after a long illness, and she has been on my mind a lot over the last few days. She and I were so much alike, there was often friction between us, but I was closer to her that I ever realized until years after she passed. I think back to many of the lessons she taught me, through words and actions, as well as those I learned by just knowing her. Her life was truly interesting and a real story of hope. I hope to share that story as I have the time. So to all you parents out there, there is hope, our children do remember.
